Equipment and stat optimization guide
Equipment multiplies a character’s power — as long as you understand how its bonuses stack. Slots, rarities, calculation layers and conditions: everything you need to know.
Three slots per character
Each character can wear up to 3 pieces of equipment. In DBL Optimizer, the three slots are in the panel that unfolds when you hover a card (under the card on mobile). Each slot opens the equipment list, which you can filter by rarity and name.
Compatibility: who can wear what
Not everyone can wear every piece of equipment: each one lists the tags of its possible wearers (a color, a class, an episode…). The “Compatible” filter, on by default, only shows equipment the character can actually wear.
Some equipment goes further and is exclusive to a single card. That’s the case for many Platinum pieces, which can only be equipped by the exact character version they were made for. The tool enforces that restriction.
Rarities and frames
Equipment comes in several rarities: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, their awakened versions, Unique, Awakened Unique, Platinum and Event. Rarity decides how strong the stat lines are and how many there are. Each rarity has its own frame; DBL Optimizer draws it around the icon so you can tell the quality at a glance.
The key point: stat layers (base, pure, direct)
This is the most important — and least intuitive — mechanic. Bonuses don’t all apply the same way: they are sorted into separate layers that multiply each other:
- “Base” layer — lines such as “Base Strike ATK” or “Base Health”. They raise the underlying stat.
- “Pure” layer — lines such as “Strike ATK” (without “base”) or “Critical Rate”.
- “Direct” layer — “Damage Inflicted”, applied at the very end.
The calculation is: gain = (1 + base bonus) × (1 + pure bonus) × (1 + direct bonus) − 1. Within a layer, bonuses add up; across layers, they multiply. In practice, spreading your bonuses across different layers pays off far more than piling them into one.
Example: two +30% lines in the same layer give +60%. One +30% “base” line and one +30% “pure” line give 1.3 × 1.3 = +69%. Z Abilities share these same layers: a big “base” Z Ability amplifies the “pure” lines of your equipment.
Equipment conditions
Many pieces of equipment only unlock part of their bonuses under a condition. There are three kinds:
- Threshold in the trio — “if at least 2 Saiyans are among the fighters”. The count is made in the wearer’s trio (the 3 characters fighting together), wearer included.
- Per member — “for each Son Family fighter”: the bonus is multiplied by the number of trio members carrying the tag.
- Same equipment — the bonus depends on how many characters in the whole team wear the same piece.
The optimizer’s “Team Composition” panel shows the state of every conditional effect: Active, N missing or × N. It’s the fastest way to spot equipment whose condition isn’t met.
“OR” lines
Some equipment has a randomly rolled line, such as “Blast ATK OR Strike ATK”. In game you only get one option. DBL Optimizer lets you pick the one you actually have, for an accurate calculation.
Quick optimization method
- Identify the character’s damage type (Strike or Blast) and favor matching lines.
- Spread across layers: combine “base”, “pure” and “Damage Inflicted” rather than three identical lines.
- Check conditions in “Team Composition”: great equipment whose condition is never met is worth nothing.
- Read the combined summary (Z Abilities + items) of the targeted character to see the real gain per stat, multiplications included.
